1979 Topps #463 Steve Comer

About Steve Comer
After going 11-5 with a 2.30 ERA in 30 games for the Rangers in 1978, Comer became a full-time starter in 1979. He started all 36 of his appearances and went 17-12 in 242 1/3 innings. Comer received an individual Rangers rookie card, #463, in 1979 Topps.
Steve Comer pitched for Texas, Philadelphia and Cleveland, using a changeup taught to him by Minnesota coach Dick Siebert. He finished his college career with a 30-8 record from 1973 through 1976. Undrafted, he worked in construction and played town-team baseball before Siebert recommended him for a Rangers rookie-league opening. Shoulder trouble interrupted his Texas career in 1980. He returned mainly in relief in 1981, going 8-2 with a 2.56 ERA and 6 saves. Rangers players and staff voted him the club's Pitcher of the Year that season. After 5 seasons with Texas, he pitched for the Phillies in 1983 and the Indians in 1984.
