The story on this card
Doyle's Yankees rookie card, 1979 Topps #710, paired him with Mike Heath and Dave Rajsich. He had played 39 regular-season games for New York in 1978, batting .192. He appeared in 20 Yankees games during 1979, played second and third base, and also spent time with Columbus. Yankees infielder Brian Doyle hit his only major league home run off Cleveland's Len Barker on June 29, 1980. The solo homer came during a season he split between New York and Columbus.
The Yankees' 1979 Topps #710 Prospects card paired Heath with Brian Doyle and Dave Rajsich, all three listed with New York on their rookie cards. After a November 1978 trade to Texas, Heath moved to Oakland the following June. He batted .256 in 74 games for the 1979 Athletics, appearing in the outfield in 46 games and catching in 22. Detroit Tigers catcher Mike Heath appeared behind the plate in 117 games in both 1989 and 1990. He batted .263 in the first of those seasons and .270 in the second.
After 4 appearances and 2 starts for New York in 1978, Rajsich shared his 1979 Topps rookie card, Yankees Prospects #710, with Brian Doyle and Mike Heath. All 3 were listed with the Yankees. New York had traded Rajsich to Texas in the Sparky Lyle deal on November 10, 1978. Rangers left-hander Dave Rajsich earned his first major-league win against California on September 29, 1979. He allowed 2 hits and struck out 5 in 5 1/3 relief innings as Texas won 6-3.
