1986-87 Fleer #113 Wayman Tisdale

About Wayman Tisdale
A three-time consensus first-team All-American at the University of Oklahoma (1982-85), Wayman Tisdale was the first collegiate player to earn first-team All-America honors in each of his first three seasons and led the Big Eight in scoring three years running; he also won a gold medal with the 1984 U.S. Olympic team. The Indiana Pacers took the 6'9" power forward with the No. 2 overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft, one spot after Patrick Ewing, and this is his rookie card. Over a 12-season career (1985-1997) he played for the Pacers, Sacramento Kings, and Phoenix Suns, averaging 15.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game; his best year came in 1989-90 at Sacramento, when he posted 22.3 points and 7.5 rebounds a night. He was never an All-Star. After retiring, Tisdale became a successful smooth-jazz bass guitarist whose 2001 album "Face to Face" topped Billboard's contemporary jazz chart. In 1997 he became the first athlete in any sport to have a jersey honored by Oklahoma. He died in 2009 at age 44 of complications from bone cancer.
