About Jay Vincent
Jay Vincent came to the NBA with a champion's résumé: he teamed with Magic Johnson and Greg Kelser on Michigan State's 1979 NCAA title squad, then won Big Ten scoring crowns as a junior and senior. Dallas stole the 6'7" forward 24th overall in the 1981 draft, and he delivered immediately — 21.4 points per game, All-Rookie First Team honors, and a third-place Rookie of the Year finish. After five seasons as a Mavericks mainstay, he moved through Washington, Denver, San Antonio, Philadelphia, and the Lakers, retiring from the NBA in 1990 with 8,729 points and a 15.2 career average across nine seasons. Fleer caught him as a Nugget after a 15.4-point 1987-88 campaign, though Denver dealt him to San Antonio just five games into 1988-89. Not a rookie card, but a nice pickup for Spartans collectors — Michigan State retired his No. 31, and younger brother Sam carved out his own seven-year NBA career.
