About John Paxson
A two-time All-American at Notre Dame, John Paxson went 19th overall to the San Antonio Spurs in the 1983 draft — fitting for card #19 — and after two quiet seasons signed with Chicago as a free agent in 1985. The right-handed point guard spent nine of his eleven NBA years (1983–94) sharing a backcourt with Michael Jordan, hitting .499 from the floor and .355 from deep while averaging 7.2 points and 3.6 assists across 772 games. His signature moment came in Game 6 of the 1993 Finals in Phoenix: a wide-open three with 3.9 seconds left for a 99–98 lead that clinched the Bulls' third straight title (1991–93). Known simply as "Pax," the shorthand of his surname, he later ran Chicago's front office as general manager and vice president. Not a rookie card, this Fleer shows the sharpshooter two seasons before the rings.
