About Michael Jordan
Card #17 in 1988-89 Fleer catches Michael Jordan at full lift-off. It is not his rookie card, but it lands right after a 1987-88 season in which he swept league MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and All-Star Game MVP honors. A national champion as a North Carolina freshman in 1982 and the national college player of the year in 1984, Jordan went third overall to the Bulls in the 1984 draft and claimed Rookie of the Year at shooting guard. The free-throw-line dunks that won him back-to-back Slam Dunk Contests in 1987 and 1988 earned him the nicknames "Air Jordan" and "His Airness." He finished with six championships and six Finals MVPs (1991-93, 1996-98), five MVPs, 14 All-Star selections, ten scoring titles, and an NBA-record 30.1 points per game across Chicago (1984-93, 1995-98) and Washington (2001-03). The Naismith Hall called in 2009, and the league's MVP trophy now bears his name.
