Variations & how to tell them apart
High Number
Series 6 (311-407). Minimally distributed in the fall of 1952 when retailers cut orders — the scarcest and most coveted run in the set, holding Mantle, Robinson, Campanella, the Mathews rookie and more.
Double Print
Cards 311 (Mantle), 312 (Robinson) and 313 (Thomson) were double-printed on the final high-number press sheet, making them modestly more available than their high-number neighbors.
Mantle plate variations
Two distinct looks: (1) a full black border on the Yankees logo, the 'e' in Mantle's signature curls up, and the baseball stitching points LEFT; (2) no black border on the logo, the 'e' has no curl, and the stitching points RIGHT. No established print-run difference between them.
