About Cloyd Boyer
Cloyd Victor Boyer, born September 1, 1927, in Alba, Missouri, was a right-handed pitcher signed by the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He starred with the Duluth Dukes in 1947, going 16-9 and leading the Northern League with 239 strikeouts, then advanced through Houston before debuting in the majors on April 23, 1949. Boyer pitched five big-league seasons for the Cardinals (1949-1952) and the Kansas City Athletics (1955), compiling a 20-23 record with a 4.73 ERA, 198 strikeouts, 13 complete games, and 3 shutouts over 395.2 innings. He was the eldest of the celebrated Boyer baseball brothers: Ken Boyer, the 1964 National League MVP and multiple-time Gold Glove third baseman, and Clete Boyer, a Gold Glove third baseman over 16 seasons. After his playing days, Boyer built a long career as a scout and pitching coach, serving the New York Yankees (1975 and the 1977 World Series champions), the Atlanta Braves under Bobby Cox (1978-1981), and the Kansas City Royals under Dick Howser (1982-1983). He died in Carthage, Missouri, on September 20, 2021, at age 94.

Double Print
Marked DP. Roughly 50% more of these cards were printed than their neighbors (the hobby calls it 'double-printed'), so they are the most plentiful cards in the set. TCDB flags 103 of them, concentrated in the low series. Five cards normally in the low run - #94, #107, #131, #145 and #156 - were also printed on the more-plentiful #166-220 sheet. A print-quantity designation, not an error or a separate card.
