Crandall was an 11-time All-Star and won four Gold Gloves (1958-1960, 1962) as the National League's premier defensive backstop, leading the NL in assists a record-tying six times and catching three no-hitters. He anchored the 1957 World Series champion Milwaukee Braves and homered in their 5-0 Game 7 win over the Yankees. He later managed the Milwaukee Brewers and Seattle Mariners and was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame in 2003.
