About Keith Thomas

Card #129 pictures Keith Marshall "Kite" Thomas (1923-1995), a right-handed outfielder from Kansas City, Kansas. Thomas starred one season on the Kansas State University varsity before signing with the New York Yankees, then spent five years in their farm system, reaching Triple-A with the 1951 Kansas City Blues. Philadelphia's Connie Mack-era Athletics grabbed him in the 1951 Rule 5 draft, and he debuted in 1952, appearing in 75 games with six home runs. On July 15, 1952 he went 3-for-4 with a homer to fuel a six-run ninth that beat the St. Louis Browns 7-6. In 1953 he managed only six singles for the A's before being sold on waivers to the Washington Senators on June 30. Across two big-league seasons (1952-53) he hit .233 with 52 hits, 7 home runs, and 32 RBI in 137 games; he finished his career in the minors in 1954. This 1953 rookie card exists with a minor printing variation, the back biography appearing in either black or white text.
