About Rocky Krsnich
Rocco Peter "Rocky" Krsnich (born Krznić) was a right-handed third baseman from West Allis, Wisconsin, who signed with the Philadelphia Phillies as a 17-year-old free agent in 1945, breaking in as a shortstop with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. After joining the New York Yankees organization in 1946, he was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 1948 Minor League Draft, and his standout season came in 1949 when he hit .318 with 20 home runs for the Memphis Chicks. Krsnich reached the majors with the White Sox that same year and appeared only for Chicago, across 1949 and 1952-1953, batting .215 with 59 hits, 3 home runs, and 38 RBI over 120 big-league games. A career highlight came on September 14, 1952, when his bases-loaded single in the 17th inning gave the White Sox a 4-3 win. Nicknamed "Rocky" after his given name Rocco, he was the older brother of Mike Krsnich, who later played for the Milwaukee Braves. This high-number card (#229) is Krsnich's rookie card in the 1953 Topps set.
