About Johnny Logan
Signed out of Endicott, New York by Boston Braves scout Dewey Griggs in 1947, Johnny Logan climbed through the minors—hitting .331 at Class B Evansville and starring for the Triple-A Milwaukee Brewers—before reaching the majors as the Braves' regular shortstop in 1951. He anchored the middle infield for Boston and then Milwaukee for a decade, later playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1961–1963) and finishing his career with Japan's Nankai Hawks. A hard-nosed, four-time National League All-Star (1955, 1957, 1958, 1959), Logan batted .268 with 1,407 hits, 93 home runs, and 547 RBI across 13 big-league seasons. He was the shortstop on Milwaukee's 1957 World Series champions, hitting the Series' first home run against the Yankees and, in Game 4, tying the score with a tenth-inning double just before Eddie Mathews' walk-off homer. Known as "Yatcha" (roughly "be quiet") from his boyhood neighborhood, Logan later became the first player to win both a World Series and a Japan Series. On this card, note the 1956 Topps white/gray back-stock variation—the white back being the scarcer of the two.

Every card #1-180 exists with the reverse printed on white/cream card stock OR on gray card stock. Cards #181-340 are gray-back only.
