About Casey Wise
Kendall Cole "Casey" Wise was born September 8, 1932, in Lafayette, Indiana, the son of longtime Cubs scout and former big-league catcher Hughie Wise. His nickname came from his initials, K.C. The Cubs signed him in 1952, reportedly outbidding the Braves with a $25,000 bonus, and after a decade in the minors he debuted with Chicago in 1957, the year Baseball Digest featured him on its March cover and this Topps rookie card was issued. A slick-fielding second baseman and shortstop who once handled 204 straight chances without an error, Wise played parts of four MLB seasons (Cubs 1957, Milwaukee Braves 1958-59, Detroit Tigers 1960), appearing as a pinch-runner and pinch-hitter for the 1958 pennant-winning Braves in the World Series. On April 24, 1960, he enjoyed his best day, hitting two home runs among four hits. He batted just .174 over 126 games. Wise later became Naples, Florida's first orthodontist, practicing until 1991, and died in 2007.
