About Bob Lemon
Bob Lemon (1920-2000) reached the majors with Cleveland in 1941 as a third baseman and outfielder, but after wartime Navy service he converted to pitching in 1946-a switch that carried him to the Hall of Fame. Spending his entire career with Cleveland, the right-hander was a seven-time All-Star and won 20 or more games seven times, leading the AL in wins in 1950, 1954, and 1955. He threw a no-hitter against Detroit on June 30, 1948, and that autumn helped Cleveland capture the World Series, winning two games. Lemon finished 207-128 with a 3.23 ERA. His 1958 season, hampered by arm trouble, proved to be his last as a player. He later became a manager, guiding the New York Yankees to the 1978 World Series title. Lemon was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976.
