1958 Topps #47 Roger Maris
Roger Maris ROOKIE CARD - the future single-season home run king (61 in 1961), pictured as a Cleveland Indian. The headline rookie of the set.

About Roger Maris
Roger Eugene Maris (1934-1985) was born Roger Maras in Hibbing, Minnesota, and starred as a schoolboy athlete in Fargo, North Dakota. Signed out of the Cleveland Indians' farm system, he reached the majors with Cleveland in 1957 as a strong-armed right fielder. During the 1958 season he was traded to the Kansas City Athletics, and before the 1960 season he joined the New York Yankees, where his career took off. Maris won the AL MVP in 1960 and again in 1961, when he hit 61 home runs to break Babe Ruth's single-season record of 60, a chase clouded by Commissioner Ford Frick's insistence on measuring it against Ruth's 154-game schedule. A seven-time All-Star, Maris won three World Series titles (1961 and 1962 with the Yankees, 1967 with the Cardinals) and finished with 275 home runs. He has not been elected to the Hall of Fame.
