About Frank Robinson
Frank Robinson (1935-2019) entered professional baseball with the Cincinnati Reds in 1953 and debuted in 1956, when the Oakland-raised outfielder was named NL Rookie of the Year. He starred for the Reds (1956-1965) and Baltimore Orioles (1966-1971) and later played for the Dodgers, Angels, and Indians. A 14-time All-Star, Robinson is the only player to win the MVP in both leagues-the NL in 1961 and the AL in 1966, when he also won the Triple Crown (.316, 49 HR, 122 RBI) and led Baltimore to a World Series sweep as Series MVP. He won another title with the 1970 Orioles and retired with 586 home runs, then fourth-most all time. In 1975 he became player-manager of the Cleveland Indians, the first Black manager in major-league history. By 1958 he was among the National League's premier young sluggers. Robinson was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1982.
