About Ken Walters

Topps still listed Walters with the Phillies on #328 in the fourth print series, though Cincinnati had already bought him and sent him to its Triple-A club in San Diego. He never surfaced in the majors that year, but he had a big one in the Pacific Coast League: he batted fifth and played right field in the Padres' opener at Westgate Park, led the league with 43 doubles, made the PCL All-Star team, and helped San Diego run away with the pennant by 12 games.

Kenneth Rogers Walters was a right-handed outfielder born November 11, 1933 in Fresno, California. He graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland in 1951, and Detroit signed him as an amateur free agent the next year. He spent the rest of the decade in the minors, missing 1954 and 1955 for military service. On December 5, 1959 the Tigers sent him to Philadelphia with Ted Lepcio and minor leaguer Alex Cosmidis for Chico Fernandez and Ray Semproch. Walters debuted for the Phillies on April 12, 1960 against Cincinnati and singled in his first big-league at-bat, then hit .239 with eight home runs in 124 games as a rookie. A reserve in 1961, he was purchased by the Reds on February 9, 1962 and spent that whole season with their Triple-A club in San Diego, hitting .300 with 22 home runs. He came back to Cincinnati in 1963 for one last big-league stint and finished at .231 with 11 home runs and 58 RBI in 259 games. Two more minor league seasons followed before he retired. He died January 26, 2010 in San Ramon, California.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
