1965 Topps #580 Jimmie Hall

About Jimmie Hall
1965 Topps #580 falls in the set's final print series, a high number inside the short-print zone. It captures the best all-around season of Hall's career: a .285 average and career highs in RBI (86) and stolen bases, plus his second and final All-Star selection. He went on to appear that fall in the World Series for the pennant-winning Twins.
Jimmie Randolph Hall was a left-handed hitting outfielder from Mount Holly, North Carolina, who spent seven years in the minor leagues before breaking through with the Minnesota Twins in 1963. That rookie season he set the American League record for home runs by a player with no prior big league experience, launching him into a two-time All-Star run built on raw power and a compact, self-taught swing. Hall played all three outfield spots for Minnesota, then moved on to the California Angels, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, and Atlanta Braves as his power faded in the second half of the 1960s. He appeared in the 1965 World Series for the pennant-winning Twins. He is not a Hall of Famer.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1965 Topps #580 card?
It is card #580 of the 598-card 1965 Topps Baseball set, picturing Jimmie Hall of the Minnesota Twins.
Is 1965 Topps #580 a scarce card?
It is a high number card from the seventh and last series, #507-598. Unlike most 1960s Topps sets the 1965 highs are not scarce as a run - the premium sits on the short-printed cards inside #523-598. It is also a short-print zone card. Forty-four of the 76 cards in #523-598 were short-printed; #507-522 was not. The zone is stated as a range because the catalogs disagree on exactly which cards, so no single card is marked.
How many cards are in the 1965 Topps Baseball set?
598 cards, tracked as 600 collectible states. Numbers run from 1 to 598 with no gaps and no printed-number collisions, and two checklist cards - #79 and #508 - carry catalogued print variations that the master set counts separately.
