The story on this card
Dobson opened 1967 with Triple-A Toledo and, after a strong start there, was called up to Detroit, making his major league debut on May 31 against Cleveland. Used mostly in relief as a rookie, he worked 28 games for the Tigers, picking up his first big-league win in September against the White Sox, and closed the year with a 2.92 ERA. This card is a multi-player Rookie Stars issue shared with fellow Tigers rookie George Korince, from the sixth print series, and a recognized rookie card for Dobson. A right-hander who toiled seven years in the minors before sticking with Detroit in 1967, Pat Dobson later won twenty games for the 1971 Orioles' record four-20-game-winner staff.
Korince's first Topps card, #72, is a series 1 Rookie Stars issue shared with fellow Tigers prospect John Matchick, a recognized rookie card released as Korince broke camp in Detroit's bullpen to open the season. The photo on that card shows another player, identified by the Trading Card Database and Baseball Card Pedia as James M. Brown and by Korince's SABR biography as Ike Brown, an error Topps never corrected. A second card, #526, is a series 6 Rookie Stars issue shared with Pat Dobson, giving Korince two rookie cards from the same season covering his active relief stint with the Tigers. Canadian right-hander George Korince pitched eleven games for the Detroit Tigers in 1966-67, earning his only major league win in relief at Fenway Park before control problems and an ailing arm ended his career in the minors.
