About this card

This is one of the thirteen combo cards in the 1967 Topps set, each pairing two or more players under a headline - from #1 The Champs to #521 Bird Bombers - rather than giving one man his own card.

The story on this card

Card 334 in the 1967 Topps set is a combination card pairing Twins outfielder Bob Allison and slugger Harmon Killebrew, the club's longtime power tandem. The two had combined for 75 home runs in 1961, 80 in 1963, and 81 in 1964, and on July 18, 1962 they became the first teammates in more than seventy years to hit grand slams in the same inning. Both are pictured with the Minnesota Twins. Allison, back from a 1966 season cut to 70 games by a broken wrist, hit .258 with 24 home runs and 75 RBI in 153 games in 1967. Killebrew, coming off a .281, 39-homer 1966, batted .269 with 44 home runs, tied for the league lead, and 113 RBI while playing first base. The card belongs to the set's fourth print series.

Bob Allison was Minnesota's rugged outfielder and the 1959 AL Rookie of the Year, a three-time All-Star who hit 256 home runs and, as 'Mr. Downstairs' to Harmon Killebrew's 'Mr. Upstairs,' made the catch many call the best in Twins history. Harmon Killebrew was the Twins' quiet, powerfully built slugger of the 1960s, a six-time American League home run champion who hit more homers in the decade than anyone else and won the 1969 AL Most Valuable Player award.
