1970 Topps #672 Leon McFadden

About Leon McFadden
His 1970 Topps card, #672, falls in the seventh series, a high number. It follows a 1969 season in which he played 44 games and hit .176 in 74 at-bats. His last major league game came on April 28, 1970, when he ran for Bob Watson.
Leon McFadden was a right-handed shortstop and outfielder who played three seasons for the Houston Astros from 1968 to 1970. He attended Fremont High School in Los Angeles alongside future big leaguers Brock Davis, Willie Crawford, Bobby Tolan and Bob Watson, then signed with the Houston Colt .45s as an undrafted free agent in 1963. He debuted in the majors on September 6, 1968, against the Atlanta Braves and collected a hit in his only at-bat that day. He appeared in 16 games as a rookie, batting .277, then served mostly as a bench player in 1969 before closing out his career in 1970 with two pinch-running appearances. In 62 career games he hit .215 with 26 hits, two stolen bases and no home runs. Houston traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals that June, but he never played for them. He later played a season in Japan for the Hanshin Tigers in 1972, batting .283 with two home runs.
