About Billy Wynne

Billy Wynne was a 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher who worked in the majors from 1967 to 1971 for the New York Mets, Chicago White Sox and California Angels. He grew up in Williamston, North Carolina, the hometown of Gaylord Perry, and pitched at Pfeiffer University before the Mets signed him as an amateur free agent in 1965. He debuted with New York on August 6, 1967, and that December went to the White Sox in the trade that brought Tommie Agee and Al Weis to the Mets. In 1969 he made 20 starts for Chicago and went 7-7 with a 4.06 ERA. After the 1970 season Chicago traded him, Ken Berry and Syd O'Brien to the Angels for Jay Johnstone, Tom Egan and Tom Bradley. His last game came on April 30, 1971, and he finished 8-11 with a 4.33 ERA.
