1971 Topps #456 Bob Meyer

About Bob Meyer
The left-hander's final major league season was 1970, when he appeared in 10 games for Milwaukee, all in relief, going 0-1 with a 6.38 ERA. He struck out 20 batters in 18 1/3 innings, and his last game was May 20. His 1971 Topps card is #456, in the fourth series, and lists him with the Brewers.
Robert Bernard Meyer was a left-handed pitcher from Toledo, Ohio. He signed with the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1960 and spent parts of three big-league seasons in the American League, with the Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Kansas City Athletics, Seattle Pilots and Milwaukee Brewers. His first major league strikeout victim was future Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski. Pitching for Kansas City in 1964, Meyer and Baltimore's Frank Bertaina each threw complete-game one-hitters on September 12, though the Athletics lost 1-0 on a Jackie Brandt sacrifice fly. He also beat Kansas City with six scoreless innings that June and outdueled Baltimore with a six-hit complete game that September, and in 1969 he pitched the first nine innings, allowing one unearned run, in a 13-inning win over the Yankees. Meyer finished his career with two wins and 92 strikeouts over 129 1/3 innings.
