Smith shares #204 with George Kopacz in the Rookie Stars subset, and it is the rookie card for each player. Both men are printed with the Milwaukee Brewers, though Kopacz's last major-league game, on September 29, 1970, came with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Smith's own 1971 was brief: a .139 average with one home run and three RBI. Bernie Smith, a 5-foot-9 right-handed outfielder from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, reached the Milwaukee Brewers in 1970 after eight years in the Mets farm system, and his big league career ended in April 1971.

Kopacz himself had batted .188 for Pittsburgh in 1970, going 3-for-16 at the plate. First baseman George Kopacz played 16 major-league games for the 1966 Braves and 1970 Pirates. Across 14 minor-league seasons he won the 1970 International League MVP award with a .310 average, 29 home runs and 115 RBI.
