The story on this card

Garrett's 1970 big-league time came in September: three pinch-hit appearances for the Cubs, each ending in a strikeout, one against Bob Gibson. He shares card #576 in the fifth series, a Rookie Stars card, with Brock Davis and Garry Jestadt, all printed as Cubs. He spent 1971 at Triple-A Tacoma, won Player of the Month honors in June, and was traded late in the year to Oakland for Frank Fernandez and Bill McNulty. His first major league hit came in his first game with the Athletics. Henry Adrian 'Smokey' Garrett batted .185 across parts of eight big league seasons (1966-76) with four clubs. He hit more than 400 home runs in all, including 102 in three seasons with Japan's Hiroshima Toyo Carp.

After six major-league appearances in 1970, Davis played 106 games for Chicago in 1971. He batted .256 with 77 hits in 301 at-bats, scored 22 runs and drove in 28. Topps grouped him with Adrian Garrett and Garry Jestadt on #576, a fifth-series Rookie Stars card that identified all three players with the Cubs. Brock Davis was a left-handed outfielder for Houston, Chicago and Milwaukee. The Fremont High School alumnus played six major-league seasons, collecting 141 hits and batting .260 in 242 games.

The Cubs gave Jestadt three games and three at-bats in April 1971 before sending him to San Diego on May 19 for catcher Chris Cannizzaro. He hit .286 across 78 games between the two clubs, 50 of them at third base. Card #576 groups him with Adrian Garrett and Brock Davis, all three printed with the Cubs. Right-handed infielder from Chicago and Arizona State, a 1965 Cubs draft pick, who was the Padres' backup second and third baseman in 1971 and 1972 and collected 118 major league hits and six home runs.
