About Jarvis Tatum

On October 11, 1970, the Angels sent Tatum, Doug Griffin and Ken Tatum, no relation, to Boston for Tony Conigliaro, Ray Jarvis and Gerry Moses. The Red Sox released him in April 1971. Topps still issued his #159 in the second series with the Boston Red Sox as his team.

Jarvis Tatum was a right-handed outfielder, primarily a center fielder, who appeared in 102 major league games for the California Angels from 1968 to 1970. A Fresno native, he was an Angels selection in the 16th round of the 1965 draft out of Edison High School. His first two seasons were September trials after rosters expanded. He finished with a .232 average and eight runs batted in. Of his 59 hits, 51 were singles. Traded to the Boston Red Sox, he never reported, and after his release he played one year for Yakult in Japan's Central League. He then appeared briefly at Triple-A in 1972 and in the Mexican League in 1973. He died in Los Angeles in 2003 at age 56.
