1972 Topps #681 Bobby Pfeil

About Bobby Pfeil
Pfeil was in the Red Sox organization by the time Topps numbered him #681, a sixth-series card, after Boston bought him from the Milwaukee Brewers on March 20, 1972. The Brewers had gotten him on February 8 for a player to be named later, minor leaguer Chico Vaughns. His last season in the majors was 1971 with the Phillies, when he hit .271 in 44 games; his final game came on September 6 as a defensive replacement against the Cardinals.
Bobby Pfeil was a right-handed infielder who played third base and second base for the 1969 New York Mets and the 1971 Philadelphia Phillies. He signed with the Cubs in 1961 after one year at Pierce Junior College and spent more than seven seasons in the minors. He moved to the Cardinals organization in 1965 and to the Mets in 1968, when he led his Triple-A league in hits at Jacksonville. In 106 major-league games he hit .242 with two home runs and 19 RBI. Both home runs came in one game on July 27, 1971, when he started at catcher for the first time and homered twice off Larry Dierker, a boyhood neighbor from California. He worked winters in the art props department at Walt Disney Studios, and after baseball he built an apartment business, RPM Company, with three partners and helped coach high school baseball for seven years.
