1972 Topps #680 Dave Johnson

About Dave Johnson
Shoulder and back problems limited Johnson during 1972, when he batted .221 in 118 games for Baltimore. After the season the Orioles traded him, Pat Dobson, Johnny Oates and Roric Harrison to Atlanta for Earl Williams and Taylor Duncan. His sixth-series Topps #680 still identified him with Baltimore.
Davey Johnson played 13 major league seasons, primarily at second base, for Baltimore, Atlanta, Philadelphia and the Chicago Cubs. He batted .261 with 136 home runs in 1,435 games. A four-time All-Star, he won two World Series with Baltimore. The Orioles signed him for a $25,000 bonus in 1962 after he played at Texas A&M, and he advanced through Stockton, Elmira and Rochester. In 1973 he hit 43 home runs for Atlanta, joining Darrell Evans and Hank Aaron as the first trio of teammates to reach 40 in one season. Johnson later managed the Mets, Reds, Orioles, Dodgers and Nationals. His 1986 Mets won 108 regular-season games and the World Series. He was the American League Manager of the Year with Baltimore in 1997 and the National League winner with Washington in 2012. The Mets inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2010. He died on September 5, 2025.
