The story on this card

Baltimore won Game 1 of the 1971 World Series 5-3 on October 9 at Memorial Stadium, although the Pirates scored three runs off Dave McNally in the second inning on sloppy Baltimore defense. Bob Robertson walked and moved up on a wild pitch, Mark Belanger threw wildly to third, and Elrod Hendricks threw wildly to first on a suicide squeeze by Jackie Hernandez. Dave Cash's single, the only Pirate hit of the inning, brought Hernandez home. Baltimore answered with homers: Frank Robinson in the second, Merv Rettenmund with a three-run shot off Dock Ellis in the third that gave the Orioles the lead, and Don Buford off Bob Moose in the fifth. McNally allowed two more hits and no runs the rest of the way. Baltimore won Game 2 as well, 11-3, for a 2-0 lead. Card #223 is the first of the World Series subset (#223-230) in series 2 of the 1972 Topps set and carries the Orioles.
