The story on this card
Baltimore swept Oakland in the 1971 A.L. Championship Series, 3-0, although both clubs had won 101 games, and the Orioles took their third straight pennant. In Game 1, Vida Blue, a 24-game winner, had two out and runners on first and third in the seventh when Mark Belanger singled in a run. Pinch-hitter Curt Motton then doubled in another to tie it, and Paul Blair's two-run double put the Orioles ahead. In Game 2, Boog Powell hit two of the four Baltimore homers off Catfish Hunter, with Brooks Robinson and Elrod Hendricks adding the others, in a 5-1 win. Jim Palmer allowed three solo homers in Game 3, a 5-3 clincher at Oakland, where Brooks Robinson's two-run single broke a 1-1 tie. Card #222 is the Orioles' Playoffs card, printed in series 2.
