1972 Topps #383 Brant Alyea

About Brant Alyea
Alyea hit .177 with two homers in 79 games for the 1971 Twins, who dropped him from their 40-man roster. Oakland claimed him in the Rule 5 draft, and his 1972 Topps card, #383 in the third series, shows him with the Athletics. He went 3-for-13 in 10 games for the A's before a May 18 trade to St. Louis for Marty Martinez.
Brant Alyea was a power-hitting outfielder who spent six seasons in the majors with the Washington Senators, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals. Signed by Cincinnati out of Hofstra, where he had also starred in basketball, he was drafted away by Washington and made his major-league debut in September 1965, homering on the first pitch of his first big-league at-bat. He played outfield for the Senators in 1968 and 1969, then had his best season for Minnesota in 1970, hitting .291 with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs before going hitless in the Twins' ALCS loss to Baltimore that fall. A groin injury cut short his final major-league season, 1972, split between Oakland and St. Louis. Alyea also played winter ball in Venezuela, where he twice led the league in home runs. After baseball he worked at an Atlantic City casino and later at a car dealership near Philadelphia.
