Don Mason, born Donald Stetson Mason in Boston in 1944, was a left-handed-hitting second baseman. He signed with the Washington Senators out of Parsons College, was claimed by the San Francisco Giants in the Rule 5 draft, and reached the majors with them in 1966. He spent parts of eight seasons in the National League, five with the Giants (1966-1970) and three with the San Diego Padres (1971-1973), mostly at second base with occasional appearances at shortstop and third. His busiest seasons came in 1969, when he played 104 games for San Francisco, and 1971, when he was San Diego's most-used second baseman with 90 starts there. Mason finished his career with a .205 batting average, 143 hits, three home runs and 27 runs batted in over 336 games. His first major league home run, a solo shot off the Reds' Sammy Ellis, came on June 24, 1966. After his playing career ended, he settled on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
