The story on this card

The batting-average board pairs the 1972 batting champions of each league. Billy Williams of the Chicago Cubs won the National League title at .333, with 37 home runs and 122 RBI. He led the majors in slugging at .606. Rod Carew of the Minnesota Twins took the American League at .318 and hit no home runs all year, the first batting champion without one since Zack Wheat in 1918. Williams had gone 8-for-8 in a July 11 doubleheader against Houston at Wrigley Field. The card is #61 in the League Leaders subset (#61-#68) of 1973 Topps, from print series 1, with Williams shown as a Cub and Carew as a Twin.

Billy Williams, the sweet-swinging left fielder who played beside Ernie Banks and Ron Santo on the Cubs, won a batting title and a Rookie of the Year award and once played 1,117 games in a row. Rod Carew batted .328 over 19 seasons with the Twins and Angels. The second baseman and first baseman won seven American League batting titles, made 18 All-Star teams and entered the Hall of Fame in 1991.
