About Darrell Brandon

Brandon went 7-7 with a 3.45 ERA and 2 saves in 42 games for the 1972 Phillies, and his seven wins were second on a 59-win club to Steve Carlton's 27. His 1973 Topps #326 is a third-series card with Philadelphia. That season he went 2-4 with a 5.43 ERA in 36 games, his last in the majors, and both saves came in July in relief of Ken Brett and Jim Lonborg on consecutive days.

Darrell G. Brandon, a right-handed pitcher from Nacogdoches, Texas, reached the major leagues in 1966 after eight seasons working his way up through four organizations. Signed originally as an outfielder, he converted to pitching in the low minors and got the nickname "Bucky" from a glove with that name carved into it, which he bought from a class D teammate. Brandon debuted with the Boston Red Sox in 1966 and turned in his best season as a rookie, then remained with Boston through the pennant-winning 1967 season before a shoulder injury that September ended his year and kept him out of the World Series. Arm trouble limited him in 1968, and he moved on to the Seattle Pilots and then the Minnesota Twins. He pitched mostly out of the bullpen for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1971 to 1973, closing out a seven-year career split between the American and National Leagues. After retiring he ran a pitching school in New Jersey and later taught young pitchers in Massachusetts for more than two decades.
