1973 Topps #8 Tom Hall

About Tom Hall
Hall's first season in Cincinnati produced a 10-1 record, eight saves and a 2.61 ERA. In the 1972 NLCS he won Game Two against Pittsburgh, entering in the fifth inning and striking out Willie Stargell with two runners on, then threw 8 1/3 scoreless innings against Oakland in the World Series. His 1973 Topps card, #8 in the first series, pictures him with the Reds.
Tom Hall was a left-handed pitcher who spent ten seasons in the majors from 1968 to 1977 with the Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets and Kansas City Royals. Listed at 6 feet and 150 pounds, he earned the nickname "the Blade" for his slender build. The Twins drafted him in the third round of the 1966 amateur draft, and he rose quickly through their minor league system before debuting in June 1968. Hall worked as both a starter and a reliever for Minnesota until a December 1971 trade sent him to Cincinnati. There he pitched in a bullpen with Clay Carroll and Pedro Borbon for the early Big Red Machine teams that won a National League pennant in 1972. He reached the postseason with three of his four clubs, Minnesota, Cincinnati and Kansas City. After his career ended in 1977, Hall worked as a supervisor at an aerospace company and later as a United States Postal Service mail carrier for two decades.
