The story on this card
Game 5 of the 1972 National League Championship Series, October 11 at Riverfront Stadium, went to the bottom of the ninth with Pittsburgh ahead 3-2. Johnny Bench hit a 1-2 changeup from closer Dave Giusti over the right field wall to tie it. Tony Perez singled and was replaced by pinch-runner George Foster, who moved to second on a Denis Menke single and to third on a Cesar Geronimo fly ball. Bob Moose, now pitching, threw a wild pitch to pinch-hitter Hal McRae, and Foster scored the run that gave Cincinnati a 4-3 win and the series, three games to two. Pete Rose, who drove in a run with a third-inning double, shares this 1973 Topps #202 playoff highlight card, part of the second series. The Reds then lost the World Series to Oakland.
