1973 Topps #201 A.L. Playoffs: Hendrick Scores Winning Run

About this card
Cards #201 and #202 cover the 1972 league playoffs - #201 the American League and #202 the National League - ahead of the eight World Series cards, #203-210.
The story on this card
Game 5 of the 1972 American League Championship Series, played October 12 at Tiger Stadium, was decided in the fourth inning. Reggie Jackson scored on a double steal in the second, colliding with Tigers catcher Bill Freehan, and tore a hamstring, so George Hendrick took his place. Hendrick reached on a grounder to Dick McAuliffe that was ruled a throwing error when first baseman Norm Cash was called off the bag. Cash and Billy Martin argued the call without success. Sal Bando sacrificed Hendrick to second and Gene Tenace singled him home. Oakland won 2-1 behind Blue Moon Odom and Vida Blue, took the series three games to two, and won its first pennant since 1931. Hendrick and Freehan share this 1973 Topps #201 playoff highlight card, part of the second series.
