The story on this card
Game 5 of the 1972 World Series, played on Friday afternoon, October 20, at Oakland, came down to the ninth with Cincinnati ahead 5-4 and Oakland threatening. Pete Rose had singled in the go-ahead run, and the Athletics then put runners on the corners with one out. Bert Campaneris lofted a foul pop behind first base. Joe Morgan raced over, waved off Tony Perez and caught it, then slipped on the grass, got up and threw out pinch runner Blue Moon Odom, who had tagged from third. The 5-4 win kept the Reds alive, down 3-1 in games. The game was the last non-weekend World Series day game. Card #207 in 1973 Topps, a World Series subset card in the second series, names Odom of the Oakland Athletics and Johnny Bench of the Reds.
