About this card
Cards #203-210 cover the 1972 World Series between the Oakland Athletics and the Cincinnati Reds game by game, Games 1 through 7, and #210 World Champions closes the run.
The story on this card
Tony Perez is the subject of #205, the Game 3 card of the 1973 Topps World Series Highlights, and the front spells the word squeaker as "squeeker", an error Topps never corrected. Rain pushed the game from October 17 to October 18 at the Oakland Coliseum, and Cincinnati won 1-0 behind Jack Billingham, who held the Athletics to three hits in eight innings. The only run came in the seventh, when Cesar Geronimo singled home Perez. Perez slipped on the damp grass rounding third but still scored, and shortstop Bert Campaneris seemingly did not notice the fall. Clay Carroll pitched the ninth for the save. It was the Reds' first win of a Series they trailed 2-0. The card was issued in the second series.
