1974 Topps #640 Milt Pappas

About Milt Pappas
The Cubs released Pappas on April 2, 1974. His 1974 Topps card, #640, still identifies Chicago. In 1973 he had started 29 of his 30 appearances, striking out 48 batters in 162 innings. His one complete game that season was a shutout.
Milt Pappas signed with Baltimore out of Detroit's Cooley High School and pitched seventeen major league seasons for the Orioles, Reds, Braves and Cubs. He belonged to Baltimore's young pitching staff known as the Kiddie Korps, alongside Chuck Estrada, Steve Barber, Jack Fisher and Jerry Walker. In December 1965 the Orioles traded him, Jack Baldschun and Dick Simpson to Cincinnati for Frank Robinson. Pappas finished with 209 wins, 164 losses, 1,728 strikeouts and a 3.40 ERA in 3,186 innings. He served as player representative in both Baltimore and Cincinnati. The Orioles inducted him into their team Hall of Fame in 1985.
