1976 Topps #386 Ed Goodson

About Ed Goodson
Card #386 puts Goodson in a Dodgers uniform after the November 17, 1975 trade that sent Lee Lacy, Tom Paciorek, Jerry Royster and Jim Wynn to Atlanta for him and Dusty Baker. The season behind it was a .208 average in 86 games split between two clubs. He sat behind Gary Thomasson at San Francisco and asked for a trade; with the Braves he pinch hit in 33 appearances and hit .211.
Ed Goodson was a left-handed hitting first and third baseman who played eight seasons, 1970 to 1977, for the San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants made him the third overall pick of the June 1968 draft out of East Tennessee State, where he played shortstop. He hit .260 with 30 home runs and 170 RBI in 515 major league games, and knee and finger injuries cut into several seasons. The Giants sent him to Atlanta in June 1975, and the Dodgers acquired him that winter, after which he worked mostly as a pinch hitter. His last major league at-bat was a strikeout against Mike Torrez in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series. A fractured skull from a pitch while with Portland in 1978 ended his playing days. He became head baseball coach at Grayson County High School in Virginia in 1982, the year of his induction into the East Tennessee State athletic hall of fame, and entered the Pulaski County Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.
