1976 Topps #497 Joe McIntosh

About Joe McIntosh
McIntosh's rookie card, #497 in the 1976 Topps set, lists him with the Padres. His 1974 call-up produced a 0-4 record and a 3.62 ERA in 10 games, five of them starts. Houston had acquired him before the 1976 cards were issued, so the Padres name on the card was already out of date.
Joe McIntosh was a right-handed pitcher from Billings, Montana, who threw for the San Diego Padres in 1974 and 1975. He graduated from Billings Senior High in 1969, pitched at Washington State University, received his degree in 1973, and was drafted by the Padres that year. After going 8-6 with a 2.44 ERA for Walla Walla, he went 9-11 with a 5.27 ERA for Triple-A Hawaii in 1974 and was called up late that season. In 1975 he started 28 games and relieved in nine more, finishing 8-15 with a 3.69 ERA. His four complete games included his only major-league shutout, and his 15 losses were fourth most in the National League. His last major-league game came on September 27, 1975, leaving him with a career record of 8-19 and a 3.68 ERA over 47 games. On December 11, 1975, San Diego traded him and Larry Hardy to Houston for Doug Rader. Washington State inducted him into its athletic hall of fame in 1988.
