About Dave Freisleben

Freisleben opened 1976 in the Pacific Coast League and was back in San Diego by the end of May. He shut out his opponent in each of his first two starts, was named National League Player of the Week, and stood 6-1 with a 1.52 ERA at the end of June. He finished 10-13 with a 3.51 ERA and the first save of his career. Card #217 pictures him with the Padres.

Dave Freisleben was a right-handed starting pitcher who worked 202 major league games from 1974 to 1979 for the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays, finishing 34-60 with a 4.30 ERA. A quarterback and pitcher at Sam Rayburn High School, he was a fifth-round Padres pick in 1971 and was Texas League Pitcher of the Year in 1972, when he went 17-9 with a 2.32 ERA for Alexandria. He modeled prototype Washington Stars road uniforms in publicity photos when the Padres seemed headed to Washington, D.C., a move that fell through. He spent four seasons in the San Diego rotation. After his release at the end of 1979 he attended 1980 spring training with the California Angels but did not make the team. He later coached in the Texas Rangers minor league system and became a saltwater fishing guide on Galveston Bay, near his home in San Leon, Texas.
