About Fred Holdsworth
Holdsworth worked only in relief for the 1976 Orioles, appearing in 16 games. He went 4-1 with two saves and a 2.04 ERA. Baltimore traded him to the Expos on his 25th birthday, May 29, 1977, after a rocky start in 12 appearances. He went 3-3 with a 3.19 ERA for Montreal. The 1977 card, #466, was printed with the Baltimore Orioles.
Fred Holdsworth was a right-handed pitcher who worked for the Tigers, Orioles, Expos and Brewers between 1972 and 1980. A Detroit native and high school valedictorian, he turned down several baseball and football scholarships to sign with the Tigers after they drafted him as a senior on June 4, 1970. When he debuted on July 27, 1972, he was the youngest player in the American League. He went 0-5 in 15 games for Detroit over three seasons, and on May 29, 1975 the Tigers traded him to Baltimore for Bob Reynolds. He later pitched for the Expos, who released him on January 17, 1979, after a 7.27 ERA in six games during 1978. The Tigers signed him again on February 20, 1979 and sold him to Milwaukee that December; he pitched nine games for the 1980 Brewers with a 4.58 ERA. After baseball, he became an accountant and, in August 2005, vice president of finance at Comcast Cable's Midwest division in Bingham Farms, Michigan.
