1978 Topps #668 Dusty Baker

About Dusty Baker
Baker slipped to .262 with 11 home runs and 66 RBI in 1978, but the postseason brought another strong series. He went 7-for-15 (.467) as the Dodgers beat Philadelphia again in four games in the NLCS. The World Series went the same way as the year before, a six-game loss to the Yankees in which he hit .238. His card is #668.
Johnnie B. "Dusty" Baker Jr. was born June 15, 1949, in Riverside, California, and grew up in the Sacramento area, where he starred at Del Campo High School and held a basketball scholarship offer from Santa Clara. The Atlanta Braves drafted him in the 26th round in 1967, and he signed against his father's wishes. He debuted September 7, 1968, pinch-hitting for Phil Niekro, and became the Braves' starting center fielder in 1972. After the 1975 season he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he played eight years. With them he was named the first NLCS MVP in 1977, won a Gold Glove and two Silver Sluggers, made the 1981 and 1982 All-Star teams, and won the 1981 World Series. He finished with the Giants in 1984 and the Athletics in 1985 and 1986. He played 2,039 games and retired with 1,981 hits, 242 home runs and 1,013 RBI. As a manager he led the Giants, Cubs, Reds, Nationals and Astros, and won the 2022 World Series with Houston.
