1978 Topps #264 Jamie Easterly

About Jamie Easterly
Bobby Cox's first Braves team slotted Easterly into the rotation plan in spring, but rainouts pushed him to the bullpen, and he finished 3-6 with a 5.65 ERA in 37 games. His 1978 Topps card, #264, shows him with the Braves. On June 30, in the first game of a doubleheader against San Francisco, he surrendered Willie McCovey's 500th home run, the 12th in major league history.
Jamie Easterly was a 5-foot-9 left-hander who pitched 13 major league seasons for the Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Indians. The Braves took him in the second round of the 1971 draft out of Crockett, Texas, where he had struck out 231 in 111 innings as a high school senior. Injuries, among them a fungo-bat knee, arm trouble and elbow surgery, slowed him through the 1970s, and Atlanta used him in both rotation and bullpen without keeping him. Converted to full-time relief at Denver in 1980, he reached Milwaukee in 1981 and posted a 3.19 ERA over 62 innings in 44 games, with two postseason appearances against the Yankees. A June 1983 trade sent him to Cleveland with Gorman Thomas and Ernie Camacho, and he stayed through 1987, when rotator cuff surgery ended his career. He finished 23-33 with a 4.62 ERA in 321 games.
