About Jerry Royster

Royster moved to the middle of the infield in 1978, playing 75 games at second base and 60 at shortstop for Atlanta. He hit .259 with 137 hits and 27 stolen bases. His #187 card shows him with the Braves.

Jerry Royster was an infielder and outfielder who played 16 seasons in the majors between 1973 and 1988, mostly at third base and second base. The Dodgers signed him in 1970 at age 17 and called him up in 1973. He went to Atlanta on November 17, 1975, in the trade that sent Dusty Baker and Ed Goodson to Los Angeles, and he spent nine years with the Braves. He later played for San Diego, the White Sox and the Yankees, returned to Atlanta in 1988, and retired with a .249 average and 40 home runs. His one postseason series was the 1982 NLCS, which St. Louis swept. As a coach he served the Rockies, Brewers and Red Sox, and he took over the Brewers 15 games into the 2002 season after Davey Lopes was fired, going 53-94 before his own dismissal. Late in 2007 he was signed to manage the Lotte Giants in Busan, South Korea; he is the first non-Korean to manage a KBO team and received honorary Busan citizenship in 2008.
