About this card

Cards #411-418 are the All-Time Record Holders subset, honoring season and career record holders: hits (George Sisler and Ty Cobb), RBI (Hack Wilson and Hank Aaron), home runs (Roger Maris and Hank Aaron), batting average (Rogers Hornsby and Ty Cobb), stolen bases (Lou Brock alone), wins (Jack Chesbro and Cy Young), strikeouts (Nolan Ryan and Walter Johnson) and ERA (Dutch Leonard and Walter Johnson). Four of them are listed here under a club of the record's era rather than a 1979 team: the St. Louis Browns for George Sisler (#411), the New York Highlanders and Cleveland Spiders for Jack Chesbro and Cy Young (#416), and the Washington Senators for Walter Johnson (#417 and #418).

The story on this card

Runs batted in are the category on card #412 in the All-Time Record Holders subset (#411-418) of the 1979 Topps set. The back lists Hack Wilson with the Cubs, and the front pictures Hank Aaron in an Atlanta Braves uniform. Wilson's entry is his 1930 season for the Cubs, printed on the card as 190 RBI and raised to 191 in 1999, still the major-league record. Aaron's is the career mark of 2,297 RBI, built from 1954 through 1976.

Cubs center fielder Hack Wilson led the National League in home runs four times, hit .471 in the 1929 World Series and set a league record with 56 homers in 1930. The Veterans Committee elected him to the Hall of Fame in 1979. Hank Aaron spent 23 major-league seasons with the Braves and Brewers. The right fielder passed Babe Ruth's career home run record in 1974 and finished with 755 home runs and 3,771 hits.
