About Eric Soderholm

Card #186 pictures Soderholm with Chicago, though he played 1979 for both the White Sox and the Rangers. Across the two clubs he hit .261 in 119 games, 93 of them at third base. He added 10 home runs and 53 RBI.

Eric Soderholm was a right-handed third baseman who played in the majors from 1971 to 1980 for the Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers and New York Yankees. The Twins took him first overall in the secondary phase of the 1968 draft, and he won their regular third base job in 1974. A knee injury cost him the entire 1976 season, and the White Sox signed him as a free agent that November. His 1977 season was the best of his career: a .280 average and 25 home runs, 16 of them after the All-Star break, which earned him The Sporting News AL Comeback Player of the Year award. He hit 20 more homers in 1978, was traded to Texas for Ed Farmer in 1979, and finished with the 1980 Yankees as a part-time designated hitter. He retired with 102 home runs and a .264 average in 894 games, then scouted for the Cubs and ran youth baseball camps.
