About Wayne Nordhagen

Nordhagen hit .280 with 7 home runs and 25 RBI in 78 games for the 1979 White Sox. He also took the mound twice, working 2 innings with 2 strikeouts and a 9.00 ERA, while catching in 5 games and playing 12 in the outfield. His White Sox card in that year's Topps set is #351.

Wayne Nordhagen was a right-handed outfielder and designated hitter, with some catching, who played eight seasons in the majors: six with the Chicago White Sox (1976-81), then the Blue Jays, Pirates and Cubs. The Yankees drafted him in 1968, and he reached the White Sox in July 1976. His fullest year came in 1980, when he played 123 games and hit 15 home runs with 59 RBI. He hit .308 in the strike-shortened 1981 season. In June 1982 he was traded twice in ten days for the same outfielder, Dick Davis: Toronto sent him to the Phillies for Davis on June 15, and later that day Philadelphia moved him to Pittsburgh for Bill Robinson. After one game as a Pirate, in which he went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, he went back to Toronto as the player to be named later in the deal that had brought Davis to Pittsburgh. He finished with 502 games, a .282 average and 39 home runs. He is the uncle of former major leaguer Kevin Millar.
